Prompt: Create a sculpture that represents a period of time in New York City. Consider Yuji Agematsu’s work as inspiration, choose a period of time and represent it in 3 dimensions. This can be public time or personal history (ex. representing a week). This should be a sculpture about your experience of time, and because you are in NYC it is a sculpture about the city. Sculpture size: It must be easily handled. Nothing too big or fragile. Nothing too small as to feel insignificant. Can be wall or table-mounted.

This is a hanging piece created to show a week in my life living in New York City. It is composed of items that I have collected throughout the week (receipts, gum wrappers, snack wrappers, and a stick). I printed out places that I visited or views that I saw throughout the week on dining hall receipts, connecting each day’s activities to the materials themselves. The receipts also show what I got from the dining hall, which varies by day (I always get dumplings on Fridays!). Snacking is a constant part of my routine, so I incorporated snack wrappers both to introduce color and to reflect a personal habit. I also included gum wrapper origami; the amount of gum left in my bag often helps me keep track of time throughout the week. Overall, I think this piece really shows my life living in NYC, with some adventures and lots of snacks. It was very fun to create a sculpture out of things I would usually discard. I definitely learned more about my weekly habits and how NYC have shaped the way I tell time.
