Mumbai's Water Mirage
Prompt: Create a documentary around a wicked problem in your environment.
Mumbai’s Water Mirage takes the viewers from the streets of Mumbai to their taps, or the lack thereof. It shows them a different, unseen side of the glorious city, where the most basic necessities are luxuries for some. The lack of clean, fresh water is becoming a bigger problem day by day. This video highlights the stark contrast between the privileged and the underprivileged. The meaning and the relationship of water for these two groups are looked at closely. The problem is explained from a macro and micro perspective, ultimately giving a solution that is reasonable and practical.
This story is not just limited to one street, area, or city, the whole country has seen the impacts of this, even if it’s not in their own homes. Until it doesn’t affect us directly we don’t like to address it, because we consider it to be the government’s problem. While it is their responsibility to take care of the water supply in a city, how we use water in our homes also impacts who else gets to use the water later.
