Rückkehrunruhe is the feeling of returning home after an immersive trip only to find it fading rapidly from your awareness.
This piece captures the sights of Dubai (my home) that people don’t usually pick on as interesting or important, it passes by them fairly easily. It is an image of the basking glow of Dubai tunnels at night time. An image that would take anyone that has visited the United Arab Emirates on a quick flashback to their late-night drives in the beautiful city. It is what I love and misses most about home. I chose to collage this image with images of my roommate’s hair and winter jacket instead of the familiar belongings of people that I used to be on long late-night drives with, bringing about the sense of displacement and the slow fading away of memories. The color seen is one that mimics that seen under these tunnels and the photos used in the collage have been edited to match this color.
