Prompt: Creative a wearable mask Inspired by an Ancient culture of your choosing
A Wearable mask inspired by the ancient Sumerian culture. I chose this culture mostly because of the religion and the gods that are associated with Sumerians. Particularly The goddess Inanna. I found her very interesting. She was known as the Queen of Heaven and was the goddess of sex, war and justice. She also was believed to have the ability to change a person’s gender. That’s what drew me into this culture the most, because in a way it’s personal for me with the sex change, and I wanted to project a piece of myself in this project as well. I wanted to make it very colorful since Sumerians used vibrant colours such as deep blue, yellowish green and red.It is supposed to give off an opulent energy but at the same I want to keep it natural. That’s how I imagine ancient Sumerians were doing. Making opulent looking jewerly, clothes and decorations out of natural materials but still somehow making it look luxurious. In this project I wanted include strong basic facial features that I created with a plaster tape and aluminum foil. I wanted to include some feminine strong facial features aswell as the masculine ones. The thing I tried to channel the most is the sex change and the gender non-binarity that Inanna possessed, because this topic is very close to me. That’s why I chose this culture. It seems to me like it gender was not a binary thing back then and it was a part of their religion.
