Rule Breaker

Class of: 2029

Major: Fashion Design BFA

Medium: Multimedia (photography, gouache, marker)

Faculty: Ryan Lemere

Prompt: For this project, we were paired up to each select a site to guide our partners through using a walking practice, and then individually respond and develop a creative series via that.

“Rule Breaker” responds to the East River Greenway along the riverbank in Manhattan.

On the site, there was a sign for the NYC ferry rule of conduct, which consisted of 17 rules that the public had to follow in the area. I found inspiration within this sign as I felt like some of the rules sounded kind of absurd, and that there was no way anyone actually followed them, or even read them, while being in the area.

For my project series, I went with a humorous take on this sign and tried to “break the rules” as much as possible without actually breaking the law.
