Design Your Pattern
Prompt: This project focuses on the intricate process of creating my own digitally executed and created pattern. By exploring various styles and techniques, I will draw inspiration from nature landscapes, art and design history, architecture, and patterns of shape repetition to develop unique and visually compelling patterns. Through various developing phases I will explore multiple techniques of print making, develop hand-made sketches into digitalized motifs. The final is presented through modal mockups and a our own physically printed pattern on fabric.
For this project brief I felt mostly inspired by natural motifs, such as, petals, flowers, leaves, organic geometries and shapes. My Finals were narrowed down to two patterns: black and white floral almost hand drawn flowers, and the second one displays pink tiles initially coming from a watercolor exploration assignment. I was intrigued to study physical manipulation of flowers and pushing that pattern towards my final, however, I ended up abandoning my digitally manipulated floral scans, and simply playing with photoshop to create other patterns.
