Warm VS Cold
Class of: 2023
Major: Fashion Design BFA
Medium: A combination of multiple media, paper, beads
Faculty: Linnea Paskow
Prompt: Students need to explore 4 Native Americans and 4 Greek Myth, and choose one myth that interests them. Then draw directly into the copper plate using one of 8 sketch drawings. By using the Printing Lab in Making Center, students will use the printing technique to print their stories, and they may also build their images to be dimensional if they wish.
I was interested in a Native American story called “The Warm Wind Brothers VS. The Cold Wind Brothers” which describes a fight between two tribes. After printing the image I drew for the story, I started to sew some beads and do more drawings by using markers and color pencils to show the conflicts between the two tribes. I also used digital tools like Photoshop to explore more possibilities for printing. Since the assignment wants us to show a thoughtful visual interpretation of a myth, by combining these making skills, I can better let the viewers understand what I wanted to show through the work.
