Astronaut
Prompt: Choose a product that has good design and create product-specific packaging that effectively demonstrates the product contained inside your packaging through the use of typography, color and imagery without seeing the product.
This project I’m designing the packaging for an object that I think is a good design. My chosen object is a small USB light in the shape of an astronaut. It is small and convenient. It can be plugged into a personal laptop and used as a night light when someone is working in the dark and occasionally needs to read a document or anything in addition to the computer screen. I adopted the helmet shape of the astronaut and incorporated colors from space posters in the 1950s which is the period of space and technological advancements. I divided the semi-sphere into eight separate pieces in order to construct the shape using rigid cardboard paper, and I added the black parts as a second layer underneath to make it more dimensional. The descriptors are incorporated into the orange stripe around the box. The main purpose of this object is emphasized through the extended text “brightness” in the center of the helmet.
