Midas Touch

Class of: 2029

Major: Fine Arts BFA

Medium: printmaking

Faculty: Alaiyo Bradshaw

Prompt: This assignment asks students to illustrate a mythology and make prints in 5" by 7" using etching techniques.

This illustration is an abstract representation of the power of King Midas’s hands, who made a wish and was blessed that “whatever he touches will turn into gold” in Greek mythology. The contrast and markmaking are achieved by the properties of the ink. The color black emphasizes strength and dominance, and the perspective is intended to convey depth in the space and the sense of urgency for the viewers. The submitted photo is the third print from the plate. Photo reference: GARABATERO (on Pinterest).
