Problem Solver Necklace

Class of: 2029

Major: Fashion Design BFA

Medium: Found key from The Frick Collection gift shop, dollar-store chains, metal rings, safety pins, faux pearls

Faculty: Rodgers Stevens

Prompt: We were asked to create a simple necklace using everyday materials, inspired by Martin Margiela’s 1990 cork necklace. The goal was to explore creativity with ordinary objects instead of traditional jewelry materials.

For this project, I created the “Problem Solver Necklace.” I found the key at The Frick Collection gift shop, and the rest of the materials came from a dollar store. I liked the idea of mixing something that feels historical and meaningful with simple, everyday objects. The key represents having answers and finding solutions — kind of like saying, “I got the key.” Making this reminded me that creativity doesn’t always come from expensive materials, but from seeing possibilities in what you already have.
