Wire Bucket Hat

Class of: 2025

Major: Fashion Design BFA

Medium: Wire

Faculty: Shari Mendelson

Prompt: The assignment for this project was to reconstruct a personal object using wire.

I chose to sculpt my bucket hat into wire because the hat provides me comfort in a way that only a good accessory can. When I walk through the streets of New York, sometimes I want to hide and cover up my body as much as possible. None of the clothing in my wardrobe are not able to cover the top of my head, and this hat perfectly does the job. I also admire the simplicity of the bucket hat’s structure. As it is perfectly uniform and symmetrical in shape, all the while being also floppy and unstructured in certain areas, made me want to construct the hat with all of these contrasting characteristics.
