Prompt: Fashion as communication. Design a fashion garment that can communicate and express a certain message.

My project focuses on people’s fear and bias against face masks at the beginning of this global pandemic. Because of different mask cultures, wearing masks as protection had become a norm in Asia, but in the western countries, wearing a face mask when healthy was discouraged to the point of even socially unacceptable. It had become a social pressure for Asian to wear masks in public, due to many racism cases violating the safety of people. Therefore, I made a clear mask out of PVC fabrics and plastic bottles, aimed to show the Asian pride of mask culture, achieve the protective function, and break the cultural stigmatization of mask-wearing.
