First Year Student Workshop: The Organic Indigo Vat: Making, Tending and Dyeing

This week we’ve got another amazing workshop coming up on Tuesday November 16th, from 7 to 8:30 pm: The Organic Indigo Vat: Making, Tending and Dyeing, taught Parsons faculty Laura Sansone!

This workshop teaches students how to create an indigo vat, maintain it, and dye materials with it. The lesson will discuss the nature of indigo, the multitude of options and possibilities for dyeing with this special plant and a simple method for reducing the indigotin pigment so that students can create their own mini vats. This session will include a list of resources to purchase indigo and the reducing agents needed to dye with it, as well as a list of environmentally ethical textile and fiber resources. We will also address circular design methods and how indigo dyeing can be used to breathe new life into old textiles and clothing.
